Heating technology

In heating technology, the term heating is used for many applications. These include, for example, central heating, electric heating, heating system covering one floor, vehicle heating, district heating, gas heating, wood heating, coal heating, night-storage heating, oil heating, pellet heating, and heat pump heating.

Fuels used for these heating systems include, for example, natural gas, liquid gas, fuel oil, coal, straw, wood, biogas or vegetable oils and also grain.

Today, modern central heating systems partially operate with condensing technology. The usual fuels are gas or oil in this case. A condensing boiler refers to a heating boiler for hot-water heating, which almost completely utilizes the energy content of the fuel used. In contrast to conventional boilers, the condensing boiler also utilizes the condensation heat from the water vapor in the exhaust gas. Condensing units are available for pellets, gas and oil burning systems.

In the case of oil burners, the oil is conveyed to the furnace by a pump. Today, these burners operate as single and dual stage burners.

Modulating operation, which is already standard for gas burners, is considered an important innovation in the field of oil burners. To this end, the drives of the blower and gear pump are decoupled, and both components are operated separately. This enables optimal setting of different operating points.

The oil pump drive can be provided by a solenoid, for example, while a metering pump can be used to meter the oil supply.

Thomas already supplies solenoid-operated diesel metering pumps and petrol metering pumps in the automotive sector for engine-independent heating and exhaust after-treatment. These are often also known as HC dosers.

Other metering pumps or delivery pumps in the field of exhaust emission after-treatment meter AdBlue, an aqueous urea solution.
