Lena Flug, Experimental Laboratory Engineer

“Family and professional development do go together!”

“When I was studying for my university entrance exams, and afterwards as a student, I worked for the Thomas production department during the holidays. Having completed my engineering degree, specializing in energy systems technology, I gave birth to two children. In 2011, I sent in a speculative application and was offered a full-time position in the experimental lab. Thomas invited me to undergo training in the acoustics area, so I am equipped with the specialist knowledge needed to carry out tests and investigations into acoustic properties alongside my general testing activity. For three years now I have been on a project team that optimizes plastic molding for magnetic coils. One course which helped me prepare for this covered the ‘Design for Six Sigma’ method of product development based on statistical calculations. I completed the course to Black Belt level in 2016. What I appreciate most about Thomas, apart from the interesting projects and training opportunities, is the support I receive with reconciling my professional and family life, for example through flexible working hours.”
